Bio

Mark is a senior network designer for the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), based at Daresbury Laboratory. After graduating in computer science, he worked as a software engineer in the telecoms industry before joining the STFC (then CLRC) in 2002. Between 2007-09 Mark was seconded to JANET(UK), the UK National Research and Education Network, where he led their measurement and monitoring work.

Beyond networking for the STFC, Mark's main interest is network performance monitoring, and it is in this area that he contributes to various groups, most notably GridPP and the OGF, where he co-chaired the NM-WG.

Mark is also responsible for the development of monitoring infrastructures for the UK e-Science and Physics communities, with a current focus on publication of network metrics to network operators and Grid middleware via Web Services. He has also worked to educate end users with respect to obtaining better network performance for their applications, mainly through the Networkers for non-Networkers workshops. His OGF work involved automating access to network monitoring services across multiple administrative network domains.
